Professor Maria Ignatieva is a well-known specialist in the field of landscape architecture and design. She was working at the prestigious universities – Lincoln University (New Zealand), the State University of New York, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, and the University of Western Australia. In this interview we present the view of this outstanding specialist on the current trends in global landscape architecture. Maria Ignatieva knows perfectly well the landscape architecture of Russia, European countries, US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, etc., she addressed her monograph “Gardens of the Old and New Worlds. Journeys of a Landscape Architect” and numerous publications in international scientific journals. Dr. Ignatieva is also the author of the concept of experimental landscape laboratories “Living Labs”.

Experiments on the creation of "smart cities" in different parts of the world began with the onset of the 21st century, they are associated with great expectations of modern society — the transition to new life formations based on super-comfortable creation, sustainable development, and total digitalization. What will be the "smart cities" of the future, and what is especially important, how will the "smart landscapes" look like in them, according to what principles they will be planned — is the most important issue of modern science. The article discusses the concept of "smart landscape", highlights its main characteristics, and provides examples of scientific achievements and experimental projects presented by researchers and inventors from the world.

Over the past two decades main approaches to smart city creating have changed greatly, but the desire to find opportunities for the ideal coexistence of a person and the outside world has remained as a key issue. A few years ago, the automotive corporation Toyota began the practical implementation of a fundamentally new model of a smart city. The concept of this model is based on mobility as a new way of thinking. Toyota Woven City (TWC) expected to be a place to explore new possibilities for the everyday mobility of information, goods and people, where each inhabitant can generate and implement, regardless of age, status, profession and nationality.

The article discusses the current problems of the development of design and regional culture in the context of their promotion to the creative economy. Design strategies with new socio-cultural functions based on the construction of the project process within the framework of the "tradition – innovation" model are becoming in demand. In matters of self-identification of the regional center in Vladivostok, it is necessary to analyze the existing experience of creating capable design development structures in the Asia-Pacific countries. The challenges of the Asia-Pacific region also make the issues of ecology, ethno-, ecodesign and ecopsychological approach to the formation of ecological consciousness of specialists relevant. The inclusion of the Japanese garden in the educational system of the university creates a natural educational environment of a developing type for the creative expansion of the student's consciousness.

The "Russian Creative Week — Far East" will be held on May 25−27, 2023 in Vladivostok, Russia. The forum is held by ANO "Creative Economy" together with the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic. The project is being implemented with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives. The program of the event will be held at the venues of the Ocean Cinema, which will become the point of attraction of the forum and its business program. In addition, special projects and the cultural part will take place at other locations of the city. The organizers are planning a large-scale event that will unite creative business at both the regional and federal levels. The forum will be attended by more than 200 speakers, entrepreneurs, official representatives from 11 subjects of the macroregion, foreign delegations, as well as regional and federal officials, representatives of development institutes and educational institutions.
